Just Duo It for Fitness Fun
Pairing up with a pal can be a fantastic motivator when it comes to being and staying active. With a buddy beside you on a trail, bike, treadmill, or gym, workouts have a way of seeming more like play. You’re not just exercising; you’re getting together with a friend.
And, if you tend to skip workouts, buddying up can be a real boost. Knowing someone is counting on you may help you stick with your fitness plans.
Double your pleasure
Before you ask a friend, co-worker or family member to be your exercise buddy, here are a few teaming-up tips:
- Find a good match. Look for a partner with a similar fitness level. This way, neither of you will be bored by a routine that’s too easy – or frustrated by one that’s too tough. Compatible schedules help, too.
- Think outside the block. Neighborhood walking buddies are great. But, almost any exercise can be done as a duo, from swimming laps to lifting weights. For example, you might sign up for a fitness class together. Or, you could pair up for an activity that takes two, such as tennis or racquetball.
- Share a mission. Setting a goal together – such as dropping 10 pounds or training for a 5K race can offer added inspiration.
- The weather. Don’t’ let the weather sideline you and your buddy from exercise. No matter the forecast, make a plan that’s weatherproof. For example, ift it’s too hot for outdoor workouts, instead of that outdoor activity, go to the gym or hit the mall for indoor laps, or take turns hosting an indoor DVD workout.
