Stretch Marks
Can anyone make "stretch marks" go away?
Despite all those late night infomercials - there is no cure-all lotion, potion, pill or cream that erases those marks that occur when your skin is stretched by the rapid growth of pregnancy or major weight gain. Now I know that some women swear by those "belly rubs" marketed to pregnant women for stretch mark prevention, but there's no scientific researched evidence to prove they work.
The stretch marks start out red or purple then fade to white over time. But you can use lotions that contain cocoa or shea butter, olive oil and vitmin E to help your skin retain moisture, which may relieve the itching that goes with dry skin and stretch marks. Just don't use any skin lotion that contains petroleum products as they prove to be toxic to your system. Read the label and if its got words on the ingredient list that you can't pronounce or never heard of... don't buy it.
If you want to diminish stretch marks a board certified dermatologist can do a chemical peel which slowly removes layers of the scarred skin tissue. It usually takes about six or so treatments on any spot that needs work. It'll set you back anywhere from $75 to $600 per session, depending on the treatment. If you want to do this, be sure you find the specialist by an extremely great "word of many mouths" referrel.
How do you prevent stretch marks? There is a limit to how much you can do, and some of it comes down to your genetics. You can't help but to stretch during pregancy. But staying hydrated and exercising daily does improve the circulation to your skin so as to maintain elasticity.
