Think about those times when you've caught yourself overeating.
Were you eating because you were hungry? Were you eating in response to an emotion or a feeling?
There are many factors that can trigger overeating. Take a moment to consider what might be yours:
- Foods - Do you find that the sight or smell of certain foods tempts you to eat?
- Emotions - Do you find that certain feelings cause you to snack endlessly?
- Social Situations - Have you noticed that you eat more around certain people?
- Time of Day - Are there certain times of the day when you're more susceptible to overeating?
- Activities - Is being on Facebook, the Internet, or in front of the television a problem without food in your hand?
- Physical Factors - When yuo're tired, do yuo turn to junk food as a source of energy? If you have chronic pain, do you use food to distract you from the pain?
If you answered "Yep, that's me!" to any one of these then it's time you know you need to change a behavior. Congratulations! You just made a tremendous stride in the fact that you recognized "the need to make a change". Awareness is always the first step toward making a change. But what comes after that?
