Omega 3's in Grass Fed Beef
Grass-fed beef is much lower in overall fat and saturated fat. It also has the added advantage of providing more omega-3's (good fats), and substantially less omega-6's (the bad stuff). These crucial healthy omega-3 fats are most plentiful in flaxseeds and fish. It is also in walnuts, soybeans and in the meat of animals that have grazed on omega-3 rich grasses.
When cattle are taken off natural grasses and shipped to a cramped feedlot to be fattened on grain, they immediately begin to lose the omega-3s they had stored in their tissues. As a tragic consequence, the unhealthier meat from feedlot animals typically contains only 15 to 50% of the omega-3's compared to the healthier grass-fed livestock.
