Tanning Beds

Don’t do Tanning Beds. The ultraviolet light in tanning beds is the longer wavelength of UV light that penetrates deeper into the skin and more actively destroys the collagen in the skin. UV rays also suppress your skin’s immune system which has a direct effect on your T-cells that help fight fungus, viruses, and skin cancer. These effects are compounded when you do both the tanning bed and natural sunlight. The two combined are worse than just regular sunlight alone. It’s estimated that 20 minutes on a tanning bed can be equivalent to about 4 hours in the sun. So, don’t do tanning beds in order to keep you skin beautiful and natural.

Regarding natural sunlight: it’s perfectly OK to have your face, arms and legs exposed each day to sunlight for up to 15 to 20 minutes without a sun block. In fact, it’s downright healthy as it enables the sunshine vitamin (D) to be made underneath your skin. What may not be healthy is your choice of sunblock as most clog your pores with some really nasty chemicals. In fact, research indicates that individuals who use sunscreens may actually be at an increased risk of developing skin cancer.
